Bio
Jeffrey Fare aka DJ Jefrodisiac aka Jeffrey Paradise is a new breed of performer that we have only seen evolving over the past few years. A rock musician who has integrated the role of the DJ effectively into the rock music idiom, while instinctively understanding the role of dance music and its effect on the dance floor. Not only is this a historic accomplishment, his individual take on it makes it remarkable.
Moving to San Francisco in 1998, Fare soon found himself the front man of cult band The Calculators. “Always a step ahead… they wore uniforms and modernized the sound of groups like Tubeway Army, long before anyone had heard of electroclash;” to quote ID magazine. Two years, two records, and numerous tours later, they split allowing Jeff to finish a degree in Fashion at SFSU and the others to form The Rapture, the now acclaimed dance-punk outfit with DFA.
After becoming disenchanted with both the fashion industry and San Francisco’s rigid music scene, DJ Jefrodisiac was born and teamed up with friends, and threw the legendary Booty Bassment parties. Playing a blend of electronic rock, old skool hip hop and new wave, having guests like Gold Chains and Broker/Dealer; all with a complete disregard for genre exclusivity; Booty Bassment formed the foundation for the currently morphing state of SF’s club life as it strains under the weight of house, hip-hop, and techno forming an unholy alliance with punk rock and their diametrically opposed attitudes.
A six-month sojourn in Barcelona 2001 saw Jeff manning the decks at numerous Spanish clubs and nightspots. There he drew influence from the minimal/abstract artists like Thomas Brinkmann, Isolee, and the Compakt label and experimented with dance music adding an extra string to an already capable bow.
This artistic inclusiveness is featured nowhere better than at his Saturday night weekly The Frisco Disco, at San Francisco bar The Transfer. This party takes a punk attitude and hurls it headlong into genres like disco, hip-hop, electro, garage, rock, etc. Guests like Interpol, Junior Senior, Chromeo, Hot Hot Heat, Moving Units, !!!, , and Yeah Yeah Yeahs ensure a fresh eclectic mix. It has become the most hedonistic and charged party in the city, claiming no allegiance to any one genre, but touching on the musical zeitgeist of the city by espousing an optimistic eclecticism that runs against the grain of the current economic and social climate, much as punk did in London in the Winter of 1976.
Unlike other punk oriented DJs, Jefrodisiac has gained respect and recognition in the highly stylized and critical world of dance music. Recent gigs, with dance music legends like Juan Atkins, Marshal Jefferson, Felix da Housecat, J. Sale Kane, Ben Watt (everything but the girl), etc; plus, performances at the WMC, Coachella, and SXSW with contemporary greats like DJ Hell, The Rapture, ADULT., LCD Soundsystems, Peaches, Prince Paul, 2 many djs, etc, further states that he is in a league with the best of the best; past, present and future.
Not satisfied with Djing alone, Jeff’s other musical projects include the Paradise Boys. With a few sold out shows and two 12” singles, they have already gained attention from the press, their peers, and music fans all over the world. “band to look out for”-SPIN; “Paradise Boys weigh in with a stellar track and smoking remixes”-URB; “best bay area band”-Filter; “stand out track”-Fader; “crisp, smooth, mildly petulant, definitely sleazy, and utterly irresistible on the dance floor”-SF Weekly.
Jeff’s musical vision, open mindedness and sense of adventure makes his sets mind blowing and memorable to both the dance and rock music scenes internationally. Get into him.
